Judge Jim’s dogs – Tia, Brandy, and Cider
The Five Bells pub in Chelsfield has an annual dog show that is one of Bromley Buzz co-presenter Darren’s favourite events of the year. Darren was joined there for the 2023 show by fellow presenter Zeenat Noorani, and both podcasters had a great, doggy time!
The following text is also to be found in our regular column in the County Chronicle magazine for September 3023.
“September brings with it the Muddy Dog Challenge, supporting Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, on 9th September in Tunbridge Wells. Bromley Buzz podcast team member Sarah Marsh-Collings is taking part with Barney, her Brittany Spaniel. See www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sarahandbarneyboo. Also, the delightful Paws In The Park takes place in Cator Park, Beckenham, on 10th September, including a ‘Waggiest Tail’ competition. The dog-loving team behind the Bromley Buzz are, obviously, in canine mode. Sarah was even talking on The Barking Hour, part of Jo Good’s show, with Anna Webb, on BBC Radio London recently.
Dogs of Chelsfield
In August, co-presenters Darren Weale and Zeenat Noorani attended the annual dog show at the Five Bells pub in Chelsfield. After about 4000 people descended on Chelsfield for the annual Village Fair, complete with air displays, this was a much quieter affair. The weather was warm, and the coats of judge Jim’s three golden retrievers, Cider, Tia, and Brandy, shone in the sun. Jim had set up an obstacle course for the ‘Chelsfield Crufts’ including close-set poles which induced repeated commands of ‘weave!’, fences, and a lengthy tunnel.

The entrants varied in size, age, obedience, and enthusiasm. Least enthusiastic, perhaps, was Merlot, a lovely rescue Saluki, (above, with owner Dan) who attempted the course once, and then declined a second outing. Meanwhile, a young girl in a dalmatian onesie hopped and crawled happily around, showing Merlot how it should be done. A handsome grey dog named Can Can was more of a Cannot, starting brilliantly each time then disappearing at pace to the garden gates.

Of those contenders that lasted the course, the top three, as judged by Jim, were Siobhan (above), the oldest dog present, in third place.

Second was Buddy (above), a lively four-month old Cocker Spaniel.

The show Champion was Olive (above), a beautiful Staffie. Well done also to contestants Molly, Marney, Rudy, and Wagon Wheel, and more, and to the owners who helped to raise money for the Foal Farm animal rescue charity in Biggin Hill.”
