Bromley BuzzUp coincides with new sponsorship

On Tuesday 16th April, we held our first monthly ‘Bromley BuzzUp’ networking meeting.

These face-to-face events are a further step in our helping to bring together people from organisations in all sectors in Bromley.

Hosted by the Newman Flexible Workspace in Bromley town centre, we enjoyed a mix of talking, eating, and activities. Mayor of Bromley Cllr Mike Botting spoke, including about his pride in being borough Loneliness champion and Armed Forces Champion. Special guest Alex Blake, former Kent County cricketer and now Captain of Hayes Cricket Club first XI, touched on his career and shared the clubs determination to add to its ranks of men, women, and children. Alex later led a session of catching practice with a well-worn cricket bat and re-purposed stress balls!

Ian Wood of Ian Wood Property, a Bromley Buzz sponsor, spoke of his pleasure in supporting the podcast, and about his work securing business premises and helping their transition through planning, fit-out, and opening. A break was followed by Jess and a colleague from Beccehamians Rugby Club Ladies talking about their fundraising Naked Calendar, and a club rugby ball was passed around in an indoor Mexican Wave. Nolene Harris spoke about Rotary Game Changers charitable activities, and Rebecca Ffrancon Davies from Bromley Little Theatre spoke about that lovely local arts hub and its current fundraising drive.

Come and meet someone you don’t already know at our future events! The next Bromley BuzzUp is on 14th May at Westcombe Park rugby club in Orpington.

Do check out Episode 164 of the Bromley Buzz podcast, in which we interview the Mayor, in what is now the longest single episode of the podcast. That was recorded before Mike went in to bat at the BuzzUp!

April was quite a month for the Bromley Buzz team. For one thing, team member Sarah Marsh-Collings of babelMonkey Ltd and her friend Lorraine completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon (21.0975 kilometres!) to raise funds for the RSPCA. If you listen to Episode 165 of the podcast you can hear Sarah and Lorraine talking with her Bromley Buzz supporters in a well-earned bar stop-off after the event.

The first Bromley BuzzUp event coincided with our new sponsorship from the Shampan Group, which has restaurants in Westerham (The Spinning Wheel), Bromley, and Welling. The event featured refreshments provided by Shampan Bromley. We were joined by Naheeda and Siraj from the Group. Recent trips to The Spinning Wheel and Shampan Bromley buffets proved most enjoyable. If you visit and the Piri Piri Lamb appears, you are in for a treat.

Mention the Bromley Buzz when booking in 2024 to receive a 15% discount from Monday to Thursday on your food at Shampan at The Spinning Wheel in Westerham and at Shampan Bromley, for both dining and take away.
