On 1st April 2025, Bromley is officially 60 years old.
As Bromley Council’s website says, “On 1 April 1965, the London Borough of Bromley was formed as five towns or districts (Bromley, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Orpington and Penge) came together to create one local authority, which coincided with the formation of the other London boroughs across the capital.
“The Mayor of Bromley will lead commemorations as the first citizen of the borough. As well as joining festivities around the borough, the Mayor will be walking the boundary of the borough in a 47 mile challenge to kick off the 60th anniversary year.
“Find out more, including how to get involved and sponsor the Mayor in aid of his charities with an announcement to come soon on a special programme for residents to get involved in.
“Resident groups, businesses and partners that are interested in holding their own events or activities for the 60th anniversary are encouraged to get in touch and share their plans, which can also be displayed on this page, so residents can find out more and get involved.”
The Mayor, Cllr Dr David Jefferys, started the commemoration on 13th February beginning a walking challenge around the borough. More here. The first leg took the Mayor and Mayoress from Crystal Palace Park, through Elmers End, Eden Park and West Wickham, Keston, the Betts Park obelisk, the Bethlem Museum of the Mind, and Biggin Hill.
David also talks about the anniversary in episode 213 of the Bromley Buzz podcast. Listen here.
