We once again despatched Mercedes Yearley of Quest Soul Theatre, herself an actress, to review a show at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre, this time Fawlty Towers The Play, on between 1st and 4th October.
Mercedes summed the night up for her and her companion for the night, saying:
“As a lifelong fan of the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers, stepping into the Churchill Theatre to see this stage adaptation was like walking straight into the chaotic world of Basil’s infamous Torquay hotel. From start to finish, the production was a thoroughly enjoyable farce—packed with sharp wit, physical comedy, and that delicious sense of awkward tension the original series delivered so well.
“What impressed me immediately was the cast’s remarkable ability to breathe life into such beloved characters. These weren’t mere imitations; each performance was nuanced, layered, and delivered with real care. The comic timing and physicality were top class, making the audience roar with laughter again and again.
“One of the cleverest aspects of this production was how it wove together several of the show’s iconic episodes into a single story. For fans, it was like being reunited with old friends while still experiencing something fresh. The set design, too, deserves praise—its faithful recreation of the 1970s hotel transported us instantly back in time.

“There were standout performances across the board, but two shone especially bright. Hemi Yeroham as Manuel was an absolute delight. With clowning skills perfectly honed, he captured every ounce of Manuel’s hapless charm while showing precise comic awareness. And Danny Payne as Basil Fawlty was outstanding—his energy, mannerisms, and full-bodied commitment to the role made it clear just how much time and care had gone into crafting his performance.
“An honourable mention must go to Paul Nicolas as The Major. His presence added another layer of professionalism to the ensemble.
“In short, this touring production is a triumph. It manages to capture the heart of Fawlty Towers while celebrating everything that made the original show so special. For fans old and new, it’s an unmissable theatrical treat. Highly recommended—just remember, whatever you do… don’t mention the war!”
