Marble Cake – Dual Ingredients that can differ

The show Marble Cake took to Bromley’s Churchill Theatre Studio with a two person show, co-written and performed by Nathaniel Allen and Olivia Penhallow. And co-produced with Creative Learning.

From the moment we sat down, and lights went up to final bows with a standing ovation, the audience were captivated on rollercoaster ride of emotions, from laughter, tears, inspiration, sadness and happiness, all-in-one.

The show featured excellent performances by Olivia and Nathaniel as two estranged dual-heritage siblings that are reunited after eight months, forcing them to reflect on their opposing perspectives of the world.  They really get to the heart of how not talking about, not listening, and communicating issues can truly impact and separate family members.

The one-hour, intense play tackles a range of issues, which are still found today, on multi-ethnic identity, family dynamics, abandonment (by their father) and the challenges faced with their mother suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

But the power of sibling love reunites them, leaving us all with Hope!

If Marble Cake is ever in your town, it is a must-see. It truly opens up your eyes and provokes questions around how there are differing perspectives in the world, but shows that these do not have to define you.
