The Churchill Theatre team told us we were in for a treat, and they were right. Stepping Out is a fun, uplifting show, reimagined with an updated script and storyline while keeping the familiar charm that makes it such a crowd-pleaser.
It was lovely to see familiar faces on stage. Strictly Come Dancing’s Karen Hauer acted well and, of course, brought electric energy to the dance numbers. Lucy Benjamin and Carli Norris were also a pleasure to watch. My favourites, though, were Sophie-Louise Dann as Dorothy and Kerry Enright as Sylvia: both had brilliant comic timing and made their characters a joy.
My one gripe was the decision to lower the curtain between every scene. It interrupted the flow and briefly took me out of the story. A wonderfully Tommy Cooper-esque interlude helped win me back before a finale that delivered all the razzle-dazzle the show had been building towards.
By the end, the audience was on its feet. Great fun, and lovely to see theatre alive and Stepping Out.
